I had a hard time coming up with ideas for my ideation sketches. I felt that the 3 legged Joseph Walsh Egnium IV chair really speaks to my Capstone, to me visually, it clearly brings in elements of the natural environment; sweeping curves, soft edges, natural and zen colors. Because of this I was stuck always trying to create something in that style which I felt really held me back on the amount of sketches and variations I produced. I wanted to get out of this mindset in order for me to move forward with my sketches. I was recommended to just make a model of this chair, to really see if this is the direction I wanted to go with. After making the model it made me question myself whether this is actually what I want to make, I then went back to my keywords list and reassessed what is a must, should and could.

When it came to do preliminary Ideation sketches I came up with this 3 legged chair that was heavy influenced by Joseph Walsh. I really like this chair and thought this was the way to go.

I then realized I started to got trapped in this rabbit hole of sketching in a similar matter, all my sketches started to look the same not, and I can't think of different ideas. Always stuck in the mindset of "that chair"

Because I wanted to break out of this mindset, I had to make a model of this 3 legged chair, to see if this was truly the direction I wanted to go towards for this years project. After making this model I realized this chair was too sculptural and that is not the way I want to represent my capstone. Because of making the model I finally got out of that head space and was able to ideate new forms. (images below)

After many Ideation drawings and sketch models made, I decided that the last 3 images I drew were the directions I wanted to head towards. This collection of furniture showcased a specific element that I am very drawn to in nature, tree branch Growth affect, I combined that and elements of contemporary furniture. I feel that these pieces I have made will sit in a contemporary space nicely while giving a bit of nature into the space.
